21 over one's head 超过某人所能理解的

A： All these things you cover are way over my head！

A： 你所讲的这一切都远超过我所能理解的。

B： What don't you understand？

B： 你哪个地方不懂。

"cover" 在这里是讲道理（课程、考试等）所含括的范围。

"例句中 "way over my head" 的 "way" 是美语中常用来「强调」程度的字。好象： "This shirt is way too big for me" 这件衬衫我来穿实在太大了。

22 That's a lot of work （某事）工程浩大

A： My mom is coming tomorrow I need to clean this place up

A： 我妈明天就要来了, 我得把这里（地方）整理一下。

B： That's going to be a lot of work

B： 这可会是个浩大的工程啊！

很多我们企图用一些 "big word" 来诠释的英文其实最后都是很容易的。这里又是一个简单却好用的字 - work

台湾来的我们讲英文时, 有时不大习惯在一些动词后加一些像"up"、"down" 之类的副词来将一些句子说得更生动完整。其实这里的 "up" 的作用就像我们中文里的（整理）一下是一样的。注意这些小地方可以帮助我们讲得更道地。不过每个语言都是听多了, 就知道怎么用, 不必刻意勉强自己。

23 plain English 简单易懂的英文

A： I'm really lost

A： 我真的是都听不懂了。

B： OK Let me try to explain to you one more time in simple, plain English

B： 好吧！ 让我用最白话的英文再跟你解释一遍。

"I'm lost" 除了「我迷路了」外, 还有我「我完全不懂了」的意思。"simple, plain English" 跟"plain English" 没有太多差别, 只是一种更强调的习惯说法罢了。

24 come close to V-ing 差一点就 ……

A： I came so close to finishing the game and the stupid power went off

A： 我差一点就把那个电玩玩完了, 结果那个白痴电停了。

B： It's just a game

B： 那不过是个游戏而已嘛！

"come close to" 后要接「动名词」, 是「 差一点就 ……」的意思。

这里的"stupid" （笨）的用法, 就像中文里, 有些人因为生气而加的「白痴」是一样的。

25 Get out of here！ 少骗我了！； 少来了！

A： 金城武 and I are going to have a date tonight

A： 我跟金城武今晚有个约会。

B： Get out of here！

B： 少盖了！

"Get out of here" 的用法很多, 除了「 少来了！」外, 还有「命令人离开」和很单纯的「离开」的意思。 比方你整天关在家里觉得很闷, 就可以说： "I'm so bored I've got to get out of here" 我觉得好闷。我得出去（透透气）。 总之, "get out of here" 的意思是视当时说话的情形而定。"Get out of here" 当「 少来了！」时, 说话的态度就要像讲中文的「 少来了！」一样, 声调也要跟着改变喔！

26 It's a dog-eat-dog world 这是个互相竞争（人吃人）的世界

A： I never learned programing, so I lost my job to a new employee

A： 我从来没学程序设计, 结果我的工作被一个新来的员工拿走了。

B： Well, it's a dog-eat-dog world, isn't it？

B： 唉！ 这是相互竞争的世界,不是吗？

在计算机网络如此发达的今天, 懂得程序语言是很吃香的。尤其目前在美国, 如果你想找个网页设计师的工作, 他们最关心的问题 就是「你会不会程序设计」。为什么呢？ 因为现在的「网上购物」愈来愈流行, 能够写程序和客户沟通是很必要的。如果不会程序设计的话, 你可能只能当「妾」, 也就是他们称的"junior web designer"会写程序的（计算机绘图能力倒不必要强）才可以当「大老婆」, 也就是所谓的"senior web designer"

27 I know where you're coming from 我懂你的感觉。

A： I can't seem to forgive her right now I mean, what I told her was supposed to be confidential and she went ahead and told everybody

A： 我现在（似乎）没办法原谅她。（我的意思是）我告诉她的事是秘密（的）, （结果）她跑去跟大家讲。

B： I know where you're coming from Have you tried talking to her about how you feel, though？

B： 我懂你的感觉。但是, 你有没有试着告诉她你的感受呢？

很多女孩子都会因为一些所谓的关于自己的秘密被传出去而和她原本的好朋友闹翻。这里的"confidential" 就是「属于机密的」的意思。它的动词是"confide", 用的时候要加 "to + 对象"如： "She confided her secret to her best friend" （她向她的至友吐露秘密。）

这里的 "went ahead" 是"go ahead"是"proceed to V" （去作某事）的意思。

"I know where you're coming from" 是个美国人蛮常用的一个口语, 表示他明白你的感觉、你为什么会作某事……等。蛮实用的。 就记得 「我知道你从哪里来。」（I know where you're coming from） 是「我懂你的感觉」就好了。好记吧？

28 off the top of one's head 直接（不必想）地

A： What's the best Japanese restaurant here in Seattle？

A： 西雅图这里哪家日本餐厅？

B： Hummm……Shiro's is excellent I Love Sushi is very good Well, that's about it I can't think of anything else off the top of my head now

B： 嗯…… Shiro's 超棒！ I Love Sushi （也）粉棒！ 嗯！ 差不多就这样子了。我现在一下子也想不到别的了。

"off the top of one's head" 也是蛮实用的一个词组。「 想都不必想, 一下子就能说出来的」就是"off the top of one's head"

"That's about it" - 差不多就这样了。

29 That's the way the ball bounces 预料中的事； 事情本该如此； 人生就是这样

A： Bernice's finally had enough of Raymond's nonstop cheating and broke up with him

A： Bernice 终于受够了Raymond长期的不忠实而和他分手了。

B： Well, that's the way the ball bounces

B： 嗯！ 那是预料中的事！

和"That's the way the ball bounces" （球就是这样弹的。）有同样意思的句子不少； 像"That's the way the cookie crumbles"（饼干就是这样碎掉的。）、 "That's way the wind blows"（风就是这样吹的。）等, 都是指一些所谓「 很正常」、「很应该。」的事。

如果你喜欢的话, 也可以说 "There you go" （看吧！ 就是这样子）, 也是差不多的意思。

30 all in the mind 全是心理作用

A： I hate English！ No matter how hard I tried, I always ended up failing

A： 我讨厌英文！ 不管我怎么努力, 我最后总是当掉（失败）。

B： Dear, listen English learning can be fun and interesting Trust me It's ALL in your mind

B： 亲爱的, 听着。学英文可以是好玩有趣的哦。相信我, 这全靠你怎么想（这全是心理作用）。

"hate" 这个字不一定是指「恨」, 只要是「很不喜欢到某个程度」都可以用"hate" 字。

"end up" 是「最后结果」的意思。其后可加 "V-ing"（动名词）或其它形态的补语。 不必担心这个「补不补、补什么」的问题了, 因为这个词组很常用, 听多了自然就会用了。英文就是这样子, 多听、多说、不要害怕, 学起来会快乐得多。"It's all in your mind" - 真的喔！

green缺乏经验的；充满活力的；green with envy嫉妒

blue沮丧的，闷闷不乐的

black极度忧郁或凶险的

white（脸色）苍白
