小白羊，叫做little white sheep。

sheep这个字，意思是绵羊。

常见的饲养动物。身体丰满，体毛绵密。头短。雄羊有螺旋状的大角，非常有威严但其实是起好看的作用，雌羊没有角或仅有细小的角。毛色为白色。绵羊在约11000年前在西南亚地区被最早驯化。绵羊现在世界各地均有饲养，性情既胆怯，又温顺，易驯化。目前高度驯化的饲养品种多为常年发情，地方放牧品种为季节发情，多在秋季、冬季发情。雌羊的怀孕期为145～152天。每胎产1～5仔。寿命为10～15年。绵羊耐渴，可以为人类提供肉和毛皮等产品。绵羊肉质鲜嫩，非常好吃，中国饲养绵羊最多的地方是内蒙古、青海等地。知名度最高的当然是克隆绵羊——多莉。

绵羊体躯丰满，被毛绵密，头短。公绵羊多有螺旋状大角具有威慑性，母绵羊无角或角细小。颅骨上具泪窝，鼻骨较隆起。四蹄都有趾腺。公绵羊无偞气。体重有十千克至百余千克不等。其构造和习性因具有多种特点而适于放牧；嘴尖、唇薄而灵活，利于采食短草，亦能采食粗硬的秸秆、树枝；消化能力强；有的种类可在尾部、臀部和内脏器官周围蓄积脂肪，以供冬春青饲料缺乏时消耗；仿效性、合群性强，有跟随领头羊（通常是老母绵羊）集合成群的习性；放牧时好向高处采食，夜间亦喜睡于牧地高处。 由于被毛的保温和隔热作用，能耐寒、耐热；但在剪毛后不久，如果天气骤冷，或被雨淋时容易得病。一般喜干燥而怕湿热。性怯懦，自卫能力弱，易受兽害。自然寿命约15岁。

性情温顺，合群性强：绵羊性温顺，胆小，行动缓慢。利用这一特性，可以训练羊群听从指挥，便于放牧管理。当突然遭到惊吓时，两耳竖起，眼睛睁大，四处乱跑，引起“炸群"放牧时应注意保持于安静环境，由于懦弱，公羊虽生有大角，却不能自卫，无抵抗能力，必须提防狼等野兽的侵害。绵羊有较强的合群性，喜受聚集一起，有利于组群放牧。当羊群出、入圈，过桥、过河或通过狭窄处时，只要有“头羊”先行，其余羊只就会尾随争先跟进，故羊群虽大，却易于驱赶和管理。就品种而言，一般粗毛羊合群性最强，细毛羊次之，以半细毛羊最差。当然，羊的合群性随季节而有所不同。如夏季牧草丰茂，合群性强，冬、春季节，由于争食枯草、树叶等，合群性往往较差些。

喜干燥清洁，抗寒而怕炎热潮湿：绵羊喜干燥，怕潮湿和炎热。棚圈湿热、湿冷或于低洼草地放牧，易感染疾病，如患寄生虫病和关节炎等。绵羊全身被毛密生，且皮肤厚，故一般不怕冷而怕热。在夏季炎热时，要防止绵羊拥挤在一块，出现“扎窝子”现象，特别是细毛羊更要注意防暑，应将羊群赶至树荫下休息。躲过炎日照射时再放牧。在严寒的冬季也应有棚舍，保持干燥，挡风和避雪。

嗅觉灵敏，采食力强：绵羊有发达的嗅觉，在采食草来前，总是先用鼻子嗅一嗅，凡有异味、污染或被践踏的饲草混有泥土的草、料均不喜欢采食。因此，放牧应注意经常轮草场；饲喂时要将草、料放置于草架、料槽中，不可直接撒在地上；每次饲喂前要打扫干净，然后再放草料，以保证羊能吃够吃好，节省草料，绵羊喜饮清洁的流水或泉水等，拒饮有异或不洁的水，放牧时要保证饮好水，以避免因口渴而误饮水、污水。

绵羊嘴唇薄而灵活，门齿锐利，能啃食低矮的小草及1根，采食植物种类多，约占整个饲喂植物种类的88%，喜食科和禾本科牧草，于枯草期，对落叶和杂草皆吃。

适应性强：绵羊对生活环境条件的适应性较强，表在恶劣条件下，比其他家畜有较强的耐受性和抗逆能力。这适应性与绵羊品种有关细毛羊一般抗干燥和寒冷，而对热则不适应；半细毛羊品种则能抗湿热，但不耐干旱，适应绿多汁饲料的环境条件。所以在对绵羊的饲养管理时，必须虑到其品种的这些特性，方能把羊养好。
