希腊神话里的一段故事正强调了巨蟹座特有的攻击性。

这先得从赫拉克勒斯(武仙)说起——赫拉克勒斯是宙斯与凡人生的儿子，天后希拉三番两次要置他於死：他也是希腊最伟大的英雄，世间最壮的人。世上没有他办不到的事，古希腊神话中主神宙斯的妻子赫拉生性嫉妒，总想暗害不是自己亲生的宙斯之子赫拉克勒斯。当赫拉克勒斯与九头蛇怪苦苦搏斗时，赫拉放出一只大螃蟹，让它偷偷接近赫拉克勒斯，猛然用大螯狠钳他的脚。赫拉克勒斯被这出其不意的偷袭吓了一跳，但马上就清醒过来，随手一击将螃蟹打扁了。

赫拉把被砸得变了形的螃蟹安置在天上，成为巨蟹座。不过怎么看它也不象螃蟹，西方早期星图还把它画成一只龙虾。

狮子座 Leo

在希腊神话里，武仙大英雄赫拉克勒斯完成的12件伟业中，头一件就是杀死尼美亚谷地的猛狮。

当赫拉克勒斯与狮子交上手后，才发觉它有刀枪不入的神通，以至手中的所有武器都失效了。但这位英雄临危不惧，灵活的闪到狮子身后，赤手空拳掐住它的脖子，发出神力将它活活勒死了。然后赫拉克勒斯聪明的用狮子的利爪剥下它自己的皮，做了一面刀枪不入的盾牌，又用狮子上、下腭做成一顶头盔。后来，主神宙斯给这头狮子安置了一个星座。

处女座（室女座）Virgo

相传在远古时期，一年到头温暖如春，风调雨顺，草木常荣。掌管天下农事的是女神得墨忒耳，她以室女星座的形象出现在空中。

有个可爱的女儿叫帕尔赛芳妮，有一天她突然失踪了。得墨忒耳焦急万分，满山遍野去寻找女儿。驾着太阳车在天上巡行的阿波罗很同情这可怜的母亲，便告诉她：“冥王哈得斯经过这里，见你女儿美貌，就把她抢走了。”

失去女儿的司农女神悲愤的隐入深山，于是世界上百花凋零，庄稼不再生长，饥荒也发生了。这种局面使众神的主神宙斯不安，便差人去同自己的哥哥，冥王哈得斯谈判，请他放还帕尔赛芳妮。哈得斯不依，借口那姑娘已经吃过他9粒石榴，强留她每年在地下住9个月，做自己的王后，其余3个月放她回娘家。

从此，得墨忒耳每年只“上班”9个月，还有3个月陪伴心爱的女儿。于是春、夏、秋三季庄稼生长，冬季则草木枯萎，这时我们也看不见室女座了。

天秤座 Libra

上面处女座神话中的女神得墨忒耳还是真理和正义女神，她用来衡量是非曲直的天平就是室女座东南方的天秤座。这个不显眼的星座早先是天蝎座的两个螯钳，天秤座α星(氐宿一)的阿拉伯名字是“南钳”，β星(氐宿四)是“北钳”。

天蝎座 Scorpio

猎人奥利恩(猎户座)非常骄傲,令神后希拉非常愤怒

希拉派遣一只毒蝎暗算奥利恩,希拉奖励蝎子完成任务,因此被提升上天成为天蝎座

猎户座和天蝎座是仇敌,因此两个星座不会同时在天空中出现,十分有趣

人马座（射手座） Sagittarius

半人半马的启隆非常博学,是海格利斯的老师,但被海格利斯误杀

天帝怜悯他,就把他放在天上,成为人马座

魔羯座（山羊座）Capricorn

山林之神潘本是一个羊头人身的怪物 ,擅长乐器

有一次宴会时,美妙的音乐引来怪物提风潘想变成一条鱼逃走,但法术不灵,上半身仍是羊的形状,却拖著一条鱼尾,狼狈地逃去

宙斯看见好笑,就将这个形状挂上天上,成为摩羯座

宝瓶座（水瓶座）Aquarius

众神的主神宙斯常在自己的圣殿里设宴款待众神。根据古希腊风俗。在宴席上为来宾斟酒端水的，应是主人家尚未出嫁的闺女，即使宙斯也不例外。所以每当宙斯设宴，他的女儿、青春女神赫伯都会出面招待客人。后来武仙赫拉克勒斯也上奥林匹斯山成了神，赫伯嫁给了他，于是宙斯的宴席上少了个捧酒壶、倒水瓶的侍者。

宙斯变成一头大鹰，飞到人间去物色一个新的侍者。他找了不少地方，最后在在特洛伊城里一片草地上发现一群孩子在玩耍，其中有个十分俊美的少年，聪明伶俐，正是合适人选。大鹰一收翅膀，轻轻落在少年面前。这个少年叫甘尼美提斯，是当地国王的儿子，他看见这雄健的大鹰居然一点不怕，还伸手去摸它。这头鹰实在高大，甘尼美提斯想跨到它身上去玩玩，它就温驯的俯下身，让少年爬上背，然后张开翅膀飞离地面，在低空盘旋几周后，愈飞愈高，一会儿看不见了。

小伙伴们这下慌了神，赶紧去报告国王:王子被一只大鹰拐走了!国王派人四下寻访，却毫无踪影。伤心的老国王失去爱子，痛苦万分，夜里走到庭院里仰天长叹:"我的孩子，你在哪里"这时，他突然看见小王子出现在满天星斗之中，手捧一个镶嵌珠宝的水瓶，将一股清澈的水倾倒而下。这是宙斯谕示国王:甘尼美提斯已成为天上的宝瓶侍者。宙斯觉得渐愧，不忍王子一天天消瘦，於是托梦给国王，告诉他王子在神界中的情形。为了安慰国王，送给国王几匹神马以为慰劳。 而宙斯也让王子回去特洛伊城看国王，然后再回来神界替宙斯做倒酒的工作， 特洛伊王子从此在天上变成水瓶，负责给宙斯倒酒。 每当夜晚望着星空时，有没有看到一个闪耀的水瓶星象，正在为你倒酒的样子呢！

双鱼座 Pisces

美神维纳斯带着心爱的儿子——小爱神丘比特，盛装打扮准备去参加一场豪华的宴会。在这个宴会中，所有的与会人土都是天神，称得上是一场“神仙的盛宴”。

众女神们一个比一个找扮得更为艳丽，谁也不想被其他人给比了下去：至於众男神们，则是人手一支酒杯，三五成群的在高谈阔论。而顽皮的小朋友们，早就已经按奈不住，玩起捉迷藏来了。

当整个宴会逐渐进入高潮，大家都陶醉於美味的食物，与香浓的醉酒中时，突然来了一位不速之客，破坏了整个宴会的气氛。这个不速之客，有着非常狰狞的外表，以及邪恶的心肠，他出现在宴会上的目的，就是要破坏它，很显然地，他已经达到这个目的了。

他伸手把摆设食物的桌子推翻，把盆栽摔向水池中，还用可怕的表情，吓坏了在场的每个与会者。大家开始四处乱窜，原本美好的宴会，竟然变得如此惊慌失措，尖叫声、小孩子的哭声不绝於耳。

这时候，维纳斯突然发现丘比特不见了，她紧张的到处寻找，也顾不得那位不速之客的存在了，维纳斯找遍了宴会的各个角落，终於在钢琴底下，找到了已经哧得混身发抖的丘比特，维纳斯不禁赶快将丘比特紧紧地抱在怀中。

为了防止丘比特再度与她失散，维纳斯於是想了一个方法，用一条绳子将两个人的脚绑在一起，然后再变成两条鱼，如此一来，就成功的逃离了这个可怕的宴会了。
