孟加拉巨蜥（学名：Varanus bengalensis）有3个亚种。体大，头长，吻长；眼睑发达，瞳孔圆形；鼓膜裸露；舌细长，先端深分叉，可缩入基部舌鞘内；有基部较宽的大型侧生齿；颞弓完整，眶后弓不完全。头顶无对称大鳞；背鳞粒状、圆形或卵圆形；腹鳞四边形，排成横行；鳞下承以真皮骨板。尾长，但不易断；有肛前孔。四肢强壮。食各种小动物和腐肉。卵生。 主要分布在印度半岛、中南半岛等地，在中国云南地区仅发现过该种巨蜥的标本。
